STRENGTH IN MOTION

Every year, more women are being diagnosed with breast cancer — and more of them are younger than ever before.

For many, the news is a shock that turns life upside down.

But in the middle of fear and uncertainty, there can also be strength. For these six incredible women, exercise has been more than movement — it has been medicine for the mind and body.

In our film, they recorded themselves participating in their chosen activities, opening their hearts about their diagnosis, and how swimming in cold open water, running through city streets, lifting weights, flowing through yoga, playing padel, or losing themselves in dance has helped them heal. Exercise has given them not just physical strength, but freedom, joy, and the courage to feel like themselves again.

Their journey builds to a beautiful finale, where all six join together in the studio, bringing sass, elegance, and energy as they recreate an iconic music video — a powerful reminder that life after cancer can still be vibrant, stylish, and full of laughter.

Their message is one of hope: movement is not just for recovery, it’s for everyone. Staying active can protect our health, nurture our confidence, and even lower the risk of breast cancer.

Because exercise is not just about fitness — it’s about living fully, no matter what.

BooBee Bus

One of the highlights of the Prevent Breast Cancer 2019 campaign was our pink BooBee bus. This enabled the BooBee campaign to travel around Greater Manchester during October which is breast cancer awareness month. The bus visited public areas where there is a high female footfall as well as large companies and organisations to engage and educate women about breast health.

Creating BooBee

BooBee was born from the collaboration between Margo Cornish, Charity Campaigner and Producer of Manchester BreastFest and Mel Hudson from The Shake

Margo and Mel have worked together lots of times in various charity projects.

The Inspiration

“I was looking for a symbol that knitted together the spirit of Manchester, would appeal to women and was creatively versatile so what better than a pink bee, pink being the colour that represents breast cancer. BooBee is a Queen Bee, key to the survival of the colony and longevity.

When I was looking for someone to take forward my ideas for ‘BooBee’ Mel was my first port of call. She was able to translate my ideas into something that would be instantly recognisable and bring people together in one huge pink buzz!”

The Design

“It’s always wonderful working with Margo. Wherever she looks, she see’s a way to bring joy and help transform lives. She takes the big unspoken topics and opens them up; she gives people hope and support, and she does it with such energy that it’s impossible not to be carried along on the ride. This project was certainly no different.

When Margo first approached us with the idea a new masthead for Prevent Breast Cancer we were immediately onboard and the designing and naming process began.

The queen bee incorporates two bras into her design – a strappy and a strapless. They form the wings, eyes and antennae.

The design is deliberately bold and bright like the attitude of the charity and the women BooBee champions.

We called her BooBee!

She represents a hive of strength and tenacity – of all the women and families rising up against this horrible disease.

We wish Margo and the team all the very best with this fantastic new campaign.”
